Dr. Roberta Weisbrod is principal of Sustainable Ports, consulting on maritime transport and port and waterfront development for public and private sector clients. Prior to that position, she worked for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on harbor environmental issues and for the New York City Economic Development Corporation, where she initiated the Strategic Plan for the Redevelopment of the Port of New York and the Cross Harbor Rail Freight Major Investment Study.
Dr. Weisbrod is executive director of the Worldwide Ferry Safety Association, which promotes ferry safety through sponsorship of research and safe design competitions, crew training programs and international advocacy. She is chair of the TRB’s Ferry Transport Committee and its marine highway subcommittee; and has been on three TRB research review panels: for the marine highway; for locating freight facilities; and for preserving freight infrastructure. She is also chair of New York’s Working Harbor Committee.
A graduate of Brooklyn College with a BS in chemistry, Dr. Weisbrod earned a PhD in biochemistry at Cornell Medical College, and taught as a lecturer at Columbia and assistant professor at Yeshiva University in biology, biochemistry and chemistry.
