Washington Dinner

The strong ties between the National Maritime Historical Society and the American Society of Marine Artists will be on full display at the 2019 National Maritime Awards Dinner in Washington, DC, on 2 May 2019. The late Peter Stanford, NMHS president emeritus, helped found ASMA back in 1978 to “recognize, encourage, and promote marine art and maritime history.”  ASMA artists are an amazingly talented and knowledgeable resource, not just to those who appreciate and collect art, but to those who value the study of maritime history. These artists bring to life seafaring scenes from every age and successfully capture the spirit and character of sailing and ships, large and small, power and sail, merchant, military, or leisure.

NMHS is indeed fortunate to have a close relationship with these great artists working today. Through the leadership of acclaimed artist Patrick O’Brien, we have invited a select group of ASMA artists including Sergio Roffo, Charles Raskob Robinson, Richard Loud, Leonard Mizerek, Lisa Egeli, Neal Hughes and Nicolas Fox to display their work at the National Maritime Awards Dinner. This is an exhibition of mostly small paintings by contemporary masters of maritime art, organized to offer our members and guests a chance to meet some of the artists and see their paintings, and perhaps purchase a favorite and take it home.  Following the dinner, any unsold works will be displayed at the Annapolis Marine Art Gallery (110 Dock Street, Annapolis, Maryland) through the end of May 2019.

25% of the purchase price of each painting goes to the National Maritime Historical Society and the National Coast Guard Museum Association, and is tax deductible for the buyer.  You don’t have to be present to purchase a painting: all selections are available for purchase now by email at [email protected] or by calling NMHS headquarters at 914 737-7878, ext. 0. Paintings sold in advance will be displayed as “Sold” at the event. Check back as the event date approaches for additional works that will be posted as they become available.
