NMHS Distinguished Service Award
The NMHS Distinguished Service Award has been presented each year since 1993 to recognize individuals who, through their personal effort and creativity, have made outstanding contributions to the maritime field.
Since receiving the NMHS Distinguished Service Award I have continued working in my trade. Throughout my carrier of 49 years from when I began working at the USCG Academy sail loft, There I learned the importance of quality practice and to understanding the trade rules of sailmaking. With time working on sails is how one learns to perfect there skills necessary to accomplish the many levels of knowledge required in build a proper sail. I have less interest today in building sails, but more interest in passing on the thought process and methods preserved through my years as a sailmaker. There is new generation of sailmakers moving on from my loft to follow the trade as practiced here.
