Opulent Crossings: Post War Tourism, Advertising, and Design

August 11, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

In celebration of the success of our inaugural digital exhibition, Advertising the United States: Discovering America’s Flagship through Prints, Posters, and Advertisements, the SS United States Conservancy has put together an exciting and engaging panel discussion. Opulent Crossings: Post War Tourism, Advertising, and Design will bring  together scholars and curators from multiple disciplines in order to discuss the connections between post war tourism, travel, advertising, and design. From the evolution of fashion from the 50’s to the 60’s- and what that said about society- to the progression of Ocean Liner design and history, this panel seeks to situate the SS United States within the shifting landscape that was Post War America.

Opulent Crossings will feature talks by curator Daniel Finamore and historians Raissa Bretaña and Richard K. Popp as well as a robust Q&A. We invite our audience to participate by asking questions, either live via the Q&A function via zoom or in advance by sending questions to info@ssusc.org

Registration for this event is FREE and open to all. We encourage those who are unfamiliar with the Conservancy and topics discussed to join!
