Farewell to you my own true love
I’m sailing far far away.
I am bound for California
but I know I’ll return some day.
– From Leaving of Liverpool (play the audio here)

The sea has always inspired song. Love songs evoked the sorrow of people and places left behind, chanteys helped pace the grueling work at sea, and ballads recorded storms and great battles.  Sea chanties play an important role in sailing, and always have. Singer-songwriter Zahm introduces the song’s history, then entertains us with his popular renditions, including favorites The MermaidLeaving of Liverpool and more.

The Public is invited. Please register here, email administrator@seahistory.org, or contact NMHS at 914-737-7878, ext. 0 if you plan to attend. A $10 donation is appreciated and makes these seminars possible – thank you! After the lecture, NMHS will host a casual lunch at the library—$10 per person.  Lunch is limited to 25 people.  Pre-registration for lunch is required and appreciated!
