Holiday Cards “The French Liner Ile de France Arriving in New York Harbor, 1955” by William G. Muller

Box of 10 holiday cards

As the Lackawanna Railroad’s 1905 vintage steam ferryboat Elmira leaves her Hoboken, New Jersey, slip for Manhattan, the French Line’s famed Ile de France, of 1927, steams up the lower Hudson River after an Atlantic crossing in December 1955.  By the end of 1967 the mighty Ile de France and all the big railroad ferryboats had vanished-though not from artist William Muller’s fond memories.

Card message: Wishing you fair winds for the holidays and calm seas for the New Year.”
