Ship of Miracles; 14,000 Lives and One Miraculous Voyage is the incredible story of what has been called “the greatest rescue operation by a single ship in the history of mankind.”  In December of 1950 Captain Leonard La Rue and the crew of the SS Meredith Victory rescued fourteen thousand North Korean refugees fleeing from rapidly approaching Chinese and Korean forces in a small merchant ship that was never meant to carry more than twelve passengers.  Standing shoulder to shoulder and without food or water, the refugees stoically endured a three-day jouney, many of them exposed to the harsh conditions of the Korean winter on the ship’s open decks.  All fourteen thousand passangers, as well as five newborn infants delivered during the voyage, disembarked safely on Christmas Day at the tiny island of Koje-Do.

Against all odds, the Meredith Victory had transported its precious cargo without a single casualty – a miracle truly worthy of the season.  Meticulously documented and researched, Ship of Miracles contains first hand accounts from the captain and crew.  Including sixteen pages of photos from both public and private collections.
