Join us live on Zoom, where everyone has a front-row seat to the canvas as artist Lisa Egeli gives a narrated plein air painting demonstration on Chesapeake Bay’s historic shoreline. We are thrilled to announce that the artist has generously agreed to auction the resulting framed 9″ x 12″ original oil painting, created before your very eyes, with proceeds to benefit the National Maritime Historical Society. Raised in a renovated farmhouse along the St. Mary’s River in southern Maryland, third-generation artist Lisa Egeli began painting the world around her at a young age. Today, her land and seascapes portray the uniqueness of a place in a moment of time, capturing the light and its seemingly magical effects on the scene. Her work is inspired by her love of water, and a belief in the need to highlight the vulnerability of our natural world. Her penchant for travel has allowed her to build a body of work that includes views from around the world, working both en plein air and in the studio, most commonly in oil and often in pastel or watercolor. Her paintings have been featured in numerous exhibits and are held in several permanent collections. As past president of The American Society of Marine Artists, Ms. Egeli has said, “My experience as both a member and leader of ASMA has brought me into a community of incredible artists whose purpose continues to be to recognize and preserve maritime history. Art is an amazing way to do that.” “Something that is worth painting—something that you care about—is what is key,” says Egeli. “For me, that connection is boats, boating, and life on the water. I have lived it, I continue to live it, and I paint it.”
